Helo’lo was the first around the bend. The trail was narrow, barely wide enough to allow the To’oks past without resorting to brush-clearing. There was no way the missing troopers had come this way, not in their combat suits. Helo’lo and his squad were having trouble enough in just their cuirasses.

The aut-cee was crouched at a wide spot in the path. Helo’lo almost shot him by reflex, but managed to hold up in time. He barked an order to the rest of the To’oks to stop and assume defensive positions. The diminutive creature was sitting on its haunches; its hands turned palms up on its knees. A hood was tucked into its belt. A burlap sack almost as large as it was lay half-hidden beneath some scrub brush. The drahouin wore no paint, and its only jewelry was a polished gold torc around its neck. Helo’lo had heard of those before, but had never seen one in person. They were worn by the aut-cees to distinguish the free drahouin from the indentured or enslaved. The Affiliations had outlawed them in the Homesteads out of concern they would encourage sedition or rebellion.

But this wasn’t the Homesteads. This was beyond the mountains. This was the forest. It made Helo’lo and his soldiers nervous. The endless sea of trunks and canopy of leaves weighed heavy on them after a career of serving on the plains.

Any concerns or misgivings he had evaporated when the aut-cee very slowly pushed the sack beside him open. A jumble of metal rods and a tarnished silvery orb lay inside. It was a walking battery, another special something that Helo’lo had only ever heard of, never seen.

Back home, it would make him a rich, powerful To’ok. He nearly shot the drahouin just to take it for himself, but decided to hear the alien out first.

“Go back, go back. Post had fever, all dead. Tall Ones burn everything.” He pointed at the bot in the sack. “You take. I go.”

Helo’lo wasted no time snatching up the sack and tying it shut. When he was done, the drahouin was already gone.

but are they? Very Happy

To'oks in cuirasses ("regular" army) are our next To'ok release (getting painted at the moment) along with a few aut-ee/D'rahouin.

It's that reference to 'all dead at the post'... and he's close enough to catch it... Very Happy

Looking forward to seeing the new releases (especially the gangers).

Hey,

Just to clarify the gangers aren't part of the next release. We need to sort out their role to bring them in properly.

You'll sort it out Smile Illegal settlers, seperatists, smugglers, militia, rebels, something like that.
