This month sees the online debut of the War of Ashes: Shieldwall quickstart rules pdf. The first step toward the release of the game, our goal is to get the rules out in the wild and gather feedback.



War of Ashes: Shieldwall is the latest offering from the designers of This Quar’s War and Songs of Our Ancestors. Concentrating on command and position instead of unit statistics and abilities, WoA: Shieldwall provides simple rules that require difficult decisions.

The quickstart gives commanders the basics for fighting a battle between the barbaric hordes of the Vidaar and their civilized cousins, the Elvorix. Over the course of the next few months we will update the document to include additional factions: the Jaarl and Kuld, as well as new creatures and rules for different unit types, leading up to the release of the book in Q1 2013.

Question on the rules -

"When one side crashes, the battle begins, giving that side the
status of active commander. His opponent draws the first stone,
and the phase begins. The active commander then spends
surges moving his fighters and attacking enemy units.

Does that mean once the Carnage phase starts the active people switches? Seems to me the player drawing the stone would be the active commander.

Question 2:

How do you determine if a fighter "4) The fighter caused a casualty or wound this round of combat." for filling in or cascading?

I will reread the first one and get back to you...

For the second: when you remove an enemy figure it leaves a hole. One of the figures that was in the combat with that figure is the fighter that caused the casualty or wound. So he has to fill-in or cascade.
